How to Determine the Right Dress Code for your Wedding
Sep 18, 2022
From the time you send out your save the dates, you may already be setting the tone for your wedding! Time of day, venue choice, and décor can all be part of the checklist that’ll have you leaning in one direction or the other. Envisioning your wedding as a black tie affair will look quite different than garden party chic. Here’s our breakdown of which style best suits your big day!
A Saturday night fete somewhere formal and fancy definitely calls for Black Tie attire! Think country club, ballroom, historical museum, or anywhere swanky! Not to mention a traditional sit-down dinner, luxe décor and lighting, and all the other bells and whistles. This also means your bridal party is going to be dressed to the nines!
Black Tie Optional can be confusing for guests, and perhaps even you. If your wedding is on a Sunday versus a Saturday, or you don’t want to put the pressure of renting a tux on your guests, this is the dress code for you. And don’t worry, you can still expect your guests to bring their style A-game!
From vineyards to gardens, farms, and other gorgeous outdoor venues are the perfect choice for so many couples. Finding the ideal attire to match is a top priority too! If it’s an evening event, then Formal or Cocktail attire will compliment the chic surroundings, while also letting everyone know that suits versus tuxes, and dresses from long, to midi, to short are all welcome. Elevated yet understated, much like your venue!
Outdoorsy daytime weddings might want to consider a Dressy Casual title. Especially for summertime parties, you want your guests to feel their best from start to finish! Airy fabrics, light shades, and short silhouettes for the ladies will reflect a summery décor style as well.
Attention all beach brides! Make sure to consider if your whole celebration is outside when making the right call here. If so, you should opt for Beach Casual, which embraces that sun, surf, and sand vibe. (Bring on the flip-flops!) If only the ceremony or cocktail hour will be waterside then consider Tropical Chic to keep things glam but practical.
