Real Bride Stories

When it comes to a modern wedding, what’s old is new again, and we’re not mad about it! There’s a lot to be said for the sophisticated styles of the past from décor tips to design details. Here’s a go-to-guide for taking a step back in time!

Fabulous Fifties

Happy days are here for brides that are excited to bring back the sock-hop and poodle skirt! Fashion saw a major evolution in the fifties, so it’s no surprise that girls are including so many of the romantic components that were popular back then. And as any Audrey Hepburn fan will tell you, women then dressed in a classically beautiful way, with dainty details and clean lines. The Lucille is the perfect gown for this! With its simple silhouette, matching that of the wildly popular circle dress, the gown screams classic and feminine beauty, especially with the delicate waistband featuring a dainty bow. Or you can channel your inner Jackie O in a floor-length and fully glamorous gown. The Providence is the perfect modern example of the beautifully classic style Jackie embodied, with its subtle ruching at the bodice, voluminous A-line skirt, and revealing just a hint of shoulder—for a bit of skin in an otherwise modest gown. We think the perfect accessories for this style are an elegant pair of sheer gloves and a short veil with some feminine embroidery, like VL1004, to complete the retro look!

There are so many fun touches you can add to fifties inspired affair. Try placing vintage trunks around the venue, a typewriter for your guests to write notes for the lovely couple, and maybe include some family heirlooms from the era to include your own history into the wedding. If you want to go all out, arrive at your wedding in a classic car, like the Ford Thunderbird or a convertible Chevy Bel Air. For a decade that saw the rise of Rock N’ Roll, play up the musical theme with vintage records to display your table numbers and make sure that plenty of Elvis is on the playlist! After you and your guests have hit the dance floor, serve a late-night snack of mini burgers, fries, and milkshakes to remind everyone just how good the diner days were!

Hippie Chic

The ’60s and ’70s were all about free love so it’s safe to say we’re already big fans! Flowers, greenery, and lots of color pops will work to fill your venue. Take advantage of outdoor spaces like a floral-filled meadow, an open pasture, or a rocky desert to bring to life this nature-inspired style! Décor is just as important as location when it comes to the bohemian bride. We think of beautiful hanging macramé, tapestries, and woven rugs as your runner down the aisle, and pampas grass or driftwood accents to keep these earthy elements close. Bring your guests back to the time of Woodstock with a mini VW bus for a creative and nostalgic cocktail hour bar.

Let’s talk groovy gowns! Think bell sleeves, lace, satin, high necks, and simplicity. Oh and a flower crown! The bell sleeves of the Kendall embody the fun fashion of the ’70s, while the scalloped v-neck and soft fit and flare silhouette help keep this funky gown new and fresh! For a more mod look, the sophisticated high haltered-neck and stunning open V back of the Rachel gown is an understated beauty. And let’s just say, when you look this good, we know history will repeat itself!
