We were so honored to partner with model and influencer Mahala Preudhomme for her London wedding to British activist Sharnika Power. The couple first met on Hinge while they were working in New York City. Mahala was modeling for Macy's, and Sharnika was working on a political campaign for an upcoming senator. When the pair matched, Mahala quickly asked Sharnika on a date that neither of them wanted to end. Instead, their first date lasted 48 hours, and the two have been together since.

They say, “When you know, you know,” and Mahala and Sharnika knew they were meant to be together. After only 4 months of dating, the couple took a trip to Vegas, and within just a few hours of arriving, they eloped. Mahala describes the event as “...spontaneous, surreal, and completely us.” But this wouldn’t be the end of their celebration. In the years that followed, they planned their gorgeous London wedding.

Mahala and Sharnika hosted their formal wedding in London, where Sharnika is from. The ceremony was held at the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple. This historic Temple Church was very significant to the pair, as thanks to Sharnika’s mother—a Temple member—they were the first Black lesbian couple to be married there. And in classic London style, guests were driven in double-decker buses to the reception at St John’s Church in Hyde Park.

When looking for her perfect wedding dress, Mahala had a vision. She knew she wanted something bold and long-sleeved to complement their winter wedding—a true statement look. Getting married in such a grand church, she knew she needed a dress that felt even grander. Our Delia Wedding Dress was an easy decision for her. Mahala told us, “I knew the Delia dress was the one before I even saw it in person.” While scrolling through the Morilee website, she stopped on the images of Delia and said, “Wow.” From the beginning, Mahala knew Morilee New York was the designer for her, but everything clicked the moment she stepped into Delia. The bridal stylists at New York City Bride immediately told her it was the one, and she couldn’t agree more. Mahala shared, “I took it off knowing there would be no second-guessing, no regrets, and no hesitation. It was my dress.”

Mahala walked down the aisle in our Delia gown, a breathtaking ball gown that blends classic design with modern structure. The high illusion neckline softens into a sweetheart bodice, framed by sheer long sleeves and a sculpted basque waist. Crafted in intricate peony lace, the voluminous ball gown silhouette balances delicacy with drama, finished with a sweeping train for a timeless statement. Mahala told us, “I’m completely obsessed with the choice I made and couldn’t have been happier.”

Reminiscing on her wedding, Mahala shared how memorable it was to incorporate her Caribbean culture into the affair. From dancing with her family, holding up the St Lucia flag to their Jamaican caterer, and the Soca music they danced to endlessly. She describes having her entire family fly to London, many of them for the very first time, as incredibly surreal. To sum it up, Mahala said her wedding was “...chaotic, joyful, and deeply touching—a perfect reflection of how seamlessly our families had come together.”
